Georges Braque was born in Argenteuil, France, in 1882, and stands as one of the founding figures of modern art. Alongside Pablo Picasso, Braque pioneered Cubism, a revolutionary movement that transformed the way artists represented space, form, and perspective. Trained initially as a decorator and later at the École des Beaux-Arts in Le Havre, Braque’s early work was influenced by Fauvism before he developed his groundbreaking Cubist style. His exploration of fragmented forms and muted palettes reshaped 20th-century visual language.
Throughout his career, Braque remained dedicated to experimentation, moving seamlessly between painting, sculpture, and printmaking. His still lifes and interiors reveal a masterful balance between structure and emotion, intellect and intuition. Today, his works are housed in the world’s leading museums, including the Centre Pompidou, MoMA, and the Tate Modern. Braque’s market value continues to remain strong, reflecting his central role in the evolution of modern art and his enduring appeal to collectors and institutions worldwide.
